“The heavy oil is here…that heavy oil is in the marshes, it has made landfall here in Plaquemines Parish.”

ABC News correspondent Jake Tapper reported the news straight from the mouth of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, via his Twitter page on Wednesday afternoon.

Reuters is also reporting that Jindal has confirmed the presence of heavy oil in the state’s delicate wetlands, which serve as a sanctuary for local wildlife and a barrier against beach erosion.

The news comes on the same day that the U.S. is talking about the larger dangers of the oil spill with other nations that line the Gulf. Reuters reports that U.S. diplomats in Havana presented a note to Cuba’s foreign ministry regarding the status of the spill, and its potential spread south.
