Wildfires raging across the south part of the Canadian provence of Quebec marred views of the skyline in Quebec City and Montreal.

Some 50 wildfires were active on Monday, with eight still burning out of control, according to the CBC. Smoke from the fires has begun to drift across the U.S. border, reducing visibility throughout much of New England. More than 1,200 firefighters are on-scene combating the blaze.

Smog alerts were issues for broad swatches of Quebec and parts of Ontario. Doctors warned those with asthma or difficulty breathing to remain indoors.
