At least 12 women who worked for the Church of Scientology’s religious order, the Sea Organization, allege they were pressured to have abortions so they could continue working for the church without the “distraction” of raising a child.

According to a investigation by the St. Petersburg Times, “Terminating a pregnancy and staying on the job affirmed one’s commitment to the all-important work of saving the planet.” A church spokesman denied the women’s accounts. (via tampabay.com)
