Nearly a quarter century later, new criminal charges are taking shape against the former biology professor.

The AP reports that Amy Bishop has been charged with first-degree murder in her brother Seth’s 1986 death. Bishop reportedly told Massachusetts police investigating Seth’s death that she accidentally shot her brother in attempting to unload their father’s 12-gauge shotgun. The siblings’ mother, Judith, confirmed that story and was the incident’s only witness.

The investigation was re-opened after Amy was charged in a Feb. 12, 2010 shooting at the University of Huntsville-Alabama. The 45-year-old woman allegedly shot six of her colleagues, killing three.
