Chess champion Bobby Fischer’s remains were exhumed and reburied, as DNA samples were taken for paternity tests. The test results could mean a check mate in an inheritance dispute for Fischer’s estate.

Fischer, who was buried in Iceland in 2008 is the alleged father of Jinky Young, a nine-year-old Filipina girl. Jinky’s mother, Marilyn, filed the paternity claim in Iceland last year.

Renowned in the chess world, Fischer has an estimated $2 million estate and left no will. His estate has been the source of conflict amongst Young, Fischer’s two nephews, and a Japanese woman, Miyoko Watai, who says she was married to Fischer.

A policeman, a priest and a doctor all were reportedly present during the exhumation and Fischer’s body was replaced as it was found. (via the New York Times)
