It’s Time To Confront Your Facebook Addiction

Admit it, you’re guilty. Repeat after me, my name is _______ and I am a Facebook addict.

A study published by Mashable and conducted by Oxygen Media and Lightspeed Research found one-third of women ages 18 to 34 check Facebook first thing in the morning, even before brushing their teeth or going to the bathroom. Shocked? Yeah, me neither.

I am (pathetically) guilty of this. It’s almost as if Facebook has become a snooze button, easing me from slumber with amusing status updates before I have to face to real world. Oh. God. Sooo pathetic. But at least I’m not alone.

After all, of the 1,605 adults surveyed on their social media habits, 39% are self-described “Facebook addicts.” It gets worse. Fifty-seven percent of women in the 18 to 34 age range say they talk to people online more than they have face-to-face conversations. Another 21% admit to checking Facebook in the middle of the night. (Happily, this is not me.)

But while we women have owned up to our Facebook addiction (remember, the first step is admitting you have a problem) the real question is, what do men do first thing in the morning?
