You like going for a walk on Sundays? Come to Europe! Police closed down 60 kilometers of one of the continent’s busiest motorways to let pedestrians walk in the sun.

That’s what happened yesterday in the German Ruhr Valley region. It was naturally not a normal Sunday promenade: At least two million Germans participated in the six-hour long so called “Still-Leben Ruhrschnellweg”, celebrating the region’s designation as the European Capital of Culture 2010.

And when Germans celebrate, of course, one important beverage can’t be missing: the beer. About 50,000 organizers installed at least 20,000 beer garden tables – and the world’s longest picnic table. Cheers. (via SPIEGEL)
