Making History: Matt Garza Pitches Rays’ First No-Hitter

Tampa Bay has something to celebrate today, as Rays pitcher Matt Garza threw the team’s first-ever no-hitter, only allowing one walk in last night’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

Garza’s pitching led the team to a 5-0 victory against the Tigers, whose lineup was depleted by injury. The beginning of his career looked promising, but he has struggled slightly since his debut. Though he’s unpredictable, he’s still good. Sports Illustrated puts it best:

…A no-hitter can serve as a reminder, a signal flare from a talented young pitcher with electric stuff that he might still put it all together and blossom into the pitcher he was once expected to be. Such is the case with Matt Garza.
