American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino is in a Pineville, N.C. hospital recovering from a reported overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid, which police called an apparent suicide attempt. Her father, Joseph, told RadarOnline that she’s “doing fine.”
Fantasia’s manager, Brian Dickens told People that she took too much of the medication, but her injuries were not life-threatening. However the overdose comes as Fantasia was named in a court filing alleging she was having an affair with Antwaun Cook, a married man. His wife, Paula accuses them of carrying on the affair for nearly a year and made a sex tape, which subsequently led to their divorce.
But the singer denies any responsibility for the Cooks’s split and believed the two were separated. In a statement, Fantasia said she is “heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused,” according to Dickens.
Fantasia’s official website says nothing about the incident so far, but does tout the release of her new album “Back to Me” on Aug. 24.
