Early Tuesday morning, a lone shooter parked a pick-up truck outside of a police station in McKinney, TX, set the truck on fire and began shooting at the station. According to witness reports, the man wore a bulletproof vest and was armed with an semi-automatic rifle.

After a brief shootout with police, the gunman died on the scene. He was the only casualty. Among many other details, it was not immediately clear how he had died, if any officers had been injured, what the man’s identity was, why he began shooting at police, or what he hoped to accomplish.

The man’s truck was a Ford F-150 pickup; some witnesses reportedly speculated that he may have set it on fire to draw his targets out of the station.

One building at the Collin County Community College, which sits adjacent to the police station, was hit by gunfire. The campus was put on lockdown during the shooting. (via NPR)
