Backlash from on-air racial slurs have sent the long time host off the airwaves.

Reuters reports that Dr. Laura Schlessinger signaled the end to her radio career in an interview with CNN’s Larry King on Tuesday. Schlessinger’s last worldwide syndicated broadcast will occur in December, but she vowed to continue to express her views in different mediums.

“I want to regain my first amendment rights (of free speech). I want to be able to say what is on my mind, in my heart, what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry,” the 63-year-old told the wire service.

Her announcement comes on the heels of national controversy sparked by her use of the N-word 11 times in an interview with an African-American caller seeking advice on racism. CNN reported that Schlessinger claimed her use was not inappropriate because other outlets, such as HBO and black comedians, employ the slur.
