Dr. Laura’s not the only celebrity being blasted for using controversial language this week; Jennifer Aniston is also now offending people en masse.
Thursday, tabloids’ favorite actress was on Live with Regis and Kelly, when she described her recent Harper’s Bazaar photo shoot, where she poses like Barbra Streisand. “Yes, I play dress up,” Aniston said. “I do it for a living, like a retard.”
Disabilities advocate groups were understandably angered. “Frankly, someone in her position ought to know better,” Peter Berns, CEO of The Arc (a nonprofit advocate for those with disabilities) told US magazine. “Every time folks hear that word, it kind of reminds them of all the discrimination and oppression they’ve experienced in their lives. Even if it wasn’t intended to insult them, that is the effect of it.”
So will Sarah Palin jump to Twitter-defend Aniston, as she did when Dr. Laura’s “1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence”? Not likely, considering Palin’s previous stance on the R-word. (via US magazine)
