Twenty-two year old former model Jimena Navarrete won the title of Miss Universe at last night’s pageant in Las Vegas.
The second Mexican Miss Universe ever, Navarrete replaces the 2009 winner, Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela. Miss USA, Rima Fakih, did not make the top 15 finalists.
Mexico’s president, Felipe Calderon, issued a statement celebrating Navarrete, saying, “Her triumph is a source of pride and satisfaction for all Mexicans, who see in her the fruits of perseverance.”
Sadly, Navarette did not make NewsFeed’s list of “best” costumes. The actual prize for best costume went to Miss Thailand, Fonthip Watcharatrakul.
