Attention average Americans relegated to doppler radar on your local weather forecast: U.S. Army Colonel Douglas H. Wheelock provides a new lens to the storm.

The NASA astronaut is currently in orbit as an Expedition 24 flight engineer and Expedition 25 commander for the International Space Station. While immersed in his work, he captured a different perspective of Hurricane Earl as it curls its way toward the East Coast.

“Hurricane Earl is gathering some serious strength,” Wheelock wrote on his Twitter page. “It is incredible what a difference a day makes when you’re dealing with this force of nature. Please keep a watchful eye on this one…not sure if Earl will go quietly into the night like Danielle.”
