The disappearance of cinema down the rabbit hole of metafilm continues: A fake fan-made trailer has been turned into a real film, and now that film has an actual trailer. (WARNING: Graphic violence!)

The 2007 Robert Rodriguez-Quentin Tarantino collaboration Grindhouse may have flopped in theaters, but it seems to have introduced a lucrative subgenre: the real-film-inspired-by fake-trailer. The first fake Grindhouse preview film, Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, opens today and now the second, the awesomely named Hobo With a Shotgun, has got a teaser trailer of its own.

The film started life as a fan-made trailer that played with Grindhouse — but only in Canada. But such is the power of any idea based upon even the flimsiest of existing properties that it too has been turned into a feature-length, starring Blade Runner‘s Rutger Hauer. Judging from the (real) trailer, the film has not lost any of its ultraviolence during the transition. Manhole decapitations! Hands getting chopped by axes! A hobo — with a shotgun! NewsFeed is sure it will be fun for the whole family.

NewsFeed is slightly excited, but we’re also worried. If Hobo With a Shotgun makes money, will fake trailers become the new board-game movies?
