If you are feeding your child Similac powdered formula there is a small chance that it has been contaminated by beetles and beetle larvae.

Abbott Laboratories, the company behind Similac, has instituted a voluntary recall of the baby food because of the possible contamination. Parents: to find out if you need to return any of your formula, enter the product code on the bottom of each can or container at www.similac.com/recall. Abbott requests that you send any contaminated formula to them directly. The company has also set up a hotline at (800) 986-8850.

Readers curious abut the negative consequences of ingesting beetles may be in for disappointment. The beetles will not grow and gestate in children’s insides; the FDA says that there is no “immediate health risk” from eating the bugs beyond minor discomfort.
