Saturday night marked Comedy Central’s “Night Of Too Many Stars” at New York City’s Beacon Theater, featuring one Jon Stewart, who got more than a little revenge against the CNN anchor who labeled him a “bigot” last week. (via THR)

Only 24 hours after CNN officially fired Sanchez for deriding Stewart as prejudicial during a radio interview – and for going after his own network, ranting “I’m telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah.” – comedians gathered in Manhattan for the Comedy Central extravaganza, ready to take their jabs at the cable newsman who had quickly been shown the door. Stewart served as host for the event, and in a monologue that addressed why people should donate their money for autism education, he leveled his sights on Sanchez: “If you went on radio and said the Jews control the media…you may want to hold on to your money,” he quipped.

David Letterman later made a surprise appearance, casually mentioning that he just happened to be downtown, “helping Rick Sanchez clean out his office.” Later Tom Brokaw even apparently got a punchline in at Sanchez’s expense. (David Letterman reveals why Oprah hated him)

Stewart also addressed Sanchez’s larger insinuations, that the media is largely Jewish-run, suggesting that then “all he has to do is apologize to us, and we’ll hire him back.”

Saturday’s jokes sound brutal, but this is hardly the end of the Sanchez fracas. The “Night Of Too Many Stars” doesn’t air until Oct. 21. And tonight marks Stewart’s first return to “The Daily Show” since the Sanchez interview went viral. Here’s betting that he’ll have a comment or two to share about his favorite CNN punching bag.
