Singer Justin Bieber poses in the press room at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on September 12, 2010 in Los Angeles, California.

One day, this smug little singer will rule us all.

According to industry insiders who talked to Vulture, MTV is inching one step closer to giving Justin Bieber control of the entire universe by handing the young Canadian songbird the hosting gig of a re-born Punk’d. The celebrity prank show originally ran from 2003 to 2007, running out of steam after exhausting every existing famous person/embarassing situation permutation its writers could dream up. (The final season pranked Evangeline Lilly, Nelly Furtado and Magic Johnson.)

Bieber of course is slightly more busy than original host Ashton Kutcher was at the time of the original Punk’d (Kutcher will reportedly stay on as executive producer) so it remains to be seen whether he will take part in planning the pranks, or as Kutcher did in later seasons will merely act as an announcer. However, if Bieber does get a modicum of creative control, New Feed will be trembling in our boots. We’ve already seen how much evil the boy can do with just a single tweet; who knows what damage he’s capable of with the full budget of a television show behind him? (via Vulture)
