The multibillion-dollar porn industry is under urgent threat and may even shut down due to an actor who tested positive for HIV, according to industry reports.

Vivid Entertainment and Wicked Pictures have already ceased production and owners of the studio that employed the infected actor are trying to identify other performers that may have also been infected by the individual. The actor’s name, gender are being withheld but the Los Angeles Times reported the person is being treated at San Fernando Valley’s Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation.

“We do have a confirmed adult-industry performer who tested positive for HIV. We are quarantining and testing all exposed partners to the individual who tested positive for HIV,” said Jennifer Miller, HIV/STD counselor at the clinic.

The porn industry, based largely in San Fernando Valley, shut down for a month in 2004 after an HIV outbreak among several actors. This latest positive result is the first since last year, when a female porn actor became infected.
