Mary Bale puts a cat in a bin

Any way you shake it, this was not the purr-fect ending for those who wanted justice to be handed out to the British woman filmed dumping a cat into a trash can.

NewsFeed has reported on the strange case of Mary Bale, who inexplicably carried out the dastardly deed in August. And Bale was in court Tuesday, fined the paltry sum of £250 ($395) after admitting a cruelty offense. Bale pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a cat but the charge of not providing said cat with a suitable environment was dropped (and let’s face it, if anyone knows anything about dropping, it’s Bale).

Bale, who was reportedly close to tears during the hearing, must also pay costs of £1,171 ($1,850) and has been banned from keeping or owning animals for the next five years. (See pictures of animals that can think.)

The 45-year-old has received death threats after the footage was posted on YouTube and was the subject of a Facebook campaign. These factors, in addition to the fact that the cat hadn’t been hurt, all played a part in district judge Caroline Goulborn’s decision. “The media interest in this case has resulted in you being vilified in some quarters and I have taken that into account,” she said.
