The devastation continues for Haiti.
A cholera outbreak has hit the rural center of the small country, reportedly already killing 200 people with 2000 more ill. The outbreak first became apparent on Wednesday and since then aid workers and NGOs have been working to treat the increasing number of sick patients.
Called the worst health crisis since the earthquakes that shattered the country’s infrastructure, Haitian officials fear that cholera will spread to Port-au-Prince, the capital.
Cholera, which wasn’t a problem in Haiti before the earthquake, is a bacterial infection spread through contaminated water and can lead to dehydration and death within days. (via the Associated Press)
