A Florida woman who gained notoriety in 2007 with an uncontrollable case of hiccups, which has since been cured, is now facing murder charges after a botched robbery, the St. Petersburg Times, reported.

Police say on Saturday Jennifer Ann Mee, 19, lured Shannon Griffin, 22, to an apartment building in St. Petersburg where two other men attempted to rob him. A struggle ensued, however and Griffin was shot several times and pronounced dead at the scene. Along with Mee, Laron Railford, 20 and Lamont Newton, 22 were arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Each suspect admitted their involvement, police said.

Mee first gained media attention when a nearly six-week case of constant hiccups afflicted her. At 50-times a minute, they became so bad she could not attend school. After her appearance, thousands tried to contact her, offering their own remedies for her condition. She reportedly also tried many different remedies including seeing an acupuncturist and taking Valium. The hiccups, for reasons unknown, eventually subsided.

On a Monday radio appearance, Mee’s mother Rachel Robidoux said her daughter is a “loveable, sweet little girl who wouldn’t hurt a fly. I don’t think she knew what was going to happen because that’s not Jennifer.”
