So you’ve offered to sacrifice your place for the Halloween bash this year–good for you! Now all you have to do is sit back and hope your place doesn’t get trashed, right? Wrong!

Hosting a party is a lot of responsibility. Even if you don’t plan on decorating or providing food or refreshments, you still have an obligation as a host to set some sort of spooky atmosphere. And the easiest way to do that is with music.

While it’s understandable that you wouldn’t want to buy Halloween music (what other time of the year is pulsing organ music appropriate?) there are still plenty of ways to get the perfect soundtrack for your party.

Here are some links to some awesome ready-made playlists available on the Internet. Simply hookup some speakers to your laptop and you have instant-spooky-atmosphere.

GrooveShark Mix – This mix of Halloween theme-songs and organ music will set the creepy mood early in the evening, allowing your friends to really sink into the atmosphere of the holiday, not to mention appreciate your party-throwing foresight.

YouTube Halloween Playlist – With over a billion subscriptions, YouTube is a huge place and searching out creepy songs isn’t anyone’s idea of a party time. Luckily, the playlists feature allows you to reap the benefits of other peoples’ searches. Some songs are a little random, some are pretty awesome, and others are flat out creepy–kind of like your party guests.

Pandora – By now, you, your friends and your party crashers are probably ready for some more conventional music. Your best bet is Pandora’s genre station feature, where Halloween themed tunes–and not spooky theme songs or slasher sound effects–will play at random. You’ll need to set up an account if you don’t already have one, but it’ll be worth it. You never know quite what you’ll get, but the station will keep going long into the night.

That should provide you with enough tunes to see the party through. If any readers have any other suggestions of awesome places to get Halloween mixes, add your suggestions in the comments below.
