No this class does not get into the finer points of curating meat for wear.

In somewhat of a creepy and slightly meta gesture, University of South Carolina at Columbia professor Mathieu Deflem is channeling his love (read: obsession) for pop star Lady Gaga into a course on fame. The sociology academic, whose other courses include the Sociology of Law and Policing International Terrorism, is adding to his repertoire with a planned course titled “Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame.” Nothing too weird about that, right? Lady Gaga is in fact one of the biggest celebrities out there right now. The problem is that Deflem, 48, is himself a “Little Monster” (what Gaga calls her fans) or, if you will, a huge monster. He has traveled the world to attend more than 28 of her shows, owns more than 300 of her records on vinyl and CD and even runs a website devoted to the pop diva.

Now that’s a little strange. But at least Deflem will have plenty of personal experience to draw from, as he has met her five times. He even hopes that she will make a visit to his class. Good luck with that one. (via NYT)
