New Orleans Saints fans set Halloween world record

It must feel pretty good to be a New Orleans Saints supporter: not only did you win the Super Bowl earlier this year, but also you now hold the world record for the largest ever gathering of Halloween revelers.

An adjudicator from Guinness World Records — which presumably means that he/she got a ticket to the game — has confirmed that at least 17,777 fans at Sunday night’s game between the Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers turned up in costume. Further probing shows that the previous best wasn’t exactly a tough number to beat: 508 people at a night club in Bloomington, Indiana in 2009. (See the top 10 moments from the Super Bowl.)

If you want to be churlish, however, it transpires that many of the thousands of costumed fans went along in Saints inspired garb, which is arguably how they show their support every time they go to the Louisiana Superdome. And sticking with numbers, the reigning champs won the game 20-10 with quarterback Drew Brees passing for 305 yards and two touchdowns. NewsFeed’s only wish is that when this seminal record is next broken, the number goes up to 66,666. (via ESPN)
