The obvious question is, of course, can you poke her?

The royal house announced today that the United Kingdom’s Queen has joined the social network. A series of Facebook pages will allow friends and fans to follow the Queen’s royal happenings, including news and upcoming events. There will also be photos and videos which feature the Queen, as well as other members of the royal family, including Princes William and Harry.

Although the Facebook pages are new, this isn’t the first time the Queen has put herself out there on the Internet–the royal family also has Flickr, Twitter and YouTube accounts. However, Facebook is seen as the definitive way of actually being connected these days. An anonymous official told the AP that “if you are going to have an online presence in 2010, you just have to be on Facebook.”

But alas, since the pages will be corporate pages, not personal ones, you won’t be able to send friendship requests or poke her Royal Highness. (via the Associated Press)
