MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann Back On the Air Tuesday

The left-leaning prime time host’s “indefinite” suspension for making political donations to Democrats lasted all of two shows. Way to show some discipline, MSNBC!

MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement Sunday night, “After several days of deliberation and discussion, I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night’s program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy. We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night.” (See the best 100 TV shows of all time.)

As for Olbermann, he took to Twitter before Griffin’s announcement, stating, “Greetings From Exile! A quick, overwhelmed, stunned THANK YOU for support that feels like a global hug & obviously left me tweetless XO.”

Olbermann had admitted donating $2,400 to the campaigns of Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway and Arizona Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords.

But as so often happens, the outcry in the aftermath seems almost to overshadow the initial story. Liberal groups were like a dog with a bone: an online petition demanding Olbermann’s reinstatement (led by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee), exceeded 300,000 signatures Sunday. Inevitably, Michael Moore tweeted his support while Olbermann’s MSNBC colleague Rachel Maddow fully supported him as did CNN new boy Eliot Spitzer. (See pictures inside the world of Spitzer.)
