Coming soon to your nearest Wal-Mart: fear!

While consumers are looking for bargains within the aisles, the federal government figures that’s a great time to get shoppers to look out for “suspicious” activity. It’s part of a new Department of Homeland Security program that places videos featuring Secretary Janet Napolitano in stores, hotels and other outlets. The program will start in an initial 230 locations and may be spread to as many as 600 nationwide.

(See if this is the end for Walmart’s rollbacks.)

“If you see something suspicious in the parking lot or in the store, say something immediately. Report suspicious activity to your local police or sheriff. If you need help, ask a Walmart manager for assistance,” Napolitano requests of shoppers in the video, giving them something to think about as the cashier rings up that jumbo size laundry detergent.

The whole video is part of the DHS’ “If You See Something, Say Something” program, which New York City public transit riders have been familiar with for years.
