The Internet giant tops the list of shiny, happy places to work, as compiled by careerbliss.com.

Rounding out the top five are 3M, DTE Energy, Qualcomm and the U.S. Military. No word on whether gay men and lesbians serving in the armed forces were polled.

The rankings are based on more than 91,000 confidential employee reviews and assessed happiness in relationship to growth opportunity, compensation, benefits, work-life balance, career advancement, senior management, job security and whether the employee would recommend the company to others.

The rankings suggest that money is by no means the best indicator of job satisfaction. Sun Microsystems, which has the highest average salary of any firm on the list at  $100,000, is ranked #46—just one spot ahead of Verizon Wireless where the annual salary is $49,000. Microsoft offers a higher average wage than its rival Google ($91,000 vs. $74,000), but only charts in at #32 on the happiness table.
