Air Traffic Update: Chicago Storm The Cause of 1000 Flight Cancelations

What’s worse than a football stadium collapsing because of snow? Well, nothing if you’re a football fan, but if you’re a traveler in Chicago, hearing that hundreds of flights have been canceled due to snow is pretty awful.

After massive snowstorms have swept across the Midwest, Chicago Department of Aviation announced that more than 1000 flights have been canceled at O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport. And the bad news seems to be continuing–more cancelations should be expected as weather conditions worsen.

What sort of weather conditions are we talking about here? Well, for starters, there are the driving winds and the piles of snow causing problems. Winds reaching 50 mph are being reported and around 20 inches of snow are expected in some areas by Monday. And if that’s not bad enough, there’s the below freezing temperatures–windchill will cause temperatures to dip below zero. (via CBS)
