It’s going to be doubly difficult for Tracy Morgan to win the Grand Slam of show business, the EGOT, (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) if surgery causes you to miss out on what you’re best known for performing in. (via EW)

But due to recovery from a recent kidney transplant, Morgan’s alter-ego of Tracy Jordan on 30 Rock is having to sit out some episodes which are expected to air in March. Our friends at Entertainment Weekly have heard on the TV grapevine that Tina Fey and her writers won’t shy away from his absence but rather address it by suggesting that he’s had a meltdown of some sort because of a good thing that’s happened to him (truly, the mind boggles).

A representative for Morgan released a statement to EW: “Tracy is doing well and taking some much needed time to recover after the surgery. He is looking forward to going back to work after the holidays.”

Morgan isn’t the first cast member to undergo a kidney transplant: Grizz Chapman (who plays the similarly named Grizz Griswold), is not only part of Tracy’s entourage on the show, but had the same procedure earlier this year (he’s also the national spokesperson for the Kidney Foundation.)

And Morgan, who was diagnosed with diabetes nearly 15 years ago, told us at TIME that, during the first season of 30 Rock, he didn’t take it seriously. “Then one day I got really sick,” he said. “The doctor was like, ‘Hey, listen, we may have to take your foot.’ That was it for me. Now I take my insulin every day.”

Get well soon, Tracy. But Morgan can’t be in too much discomfort as he was spotted watching the New York Knicks last week. That said, it’s the first time in forever that watching the Knicks isn’t a painful experience for us all.
