After all, it just makes sense.

He might be a bona fide movie star now but way back in 1988, Will Smith released the single “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and it became a smash hit. As in a Grammy-winning, Billboard-chart-climbing, name-making sort of hit. (You can check out the video on VEVO)

So it’s not really a surprise that Willow told Yahoo! Music that she’d be up for covering the track. Although the song happens to have been released a whole 12 years before she was born, many of the lyrics work perfectly for a remake– “You know, parents are the same, no matter time or place/ They don’t understand that sometimes us kids are going to make some mistakes.”

Also, besides the fact that the song is just plain fun and that there’s a cheeky humor in turning her father’s lyrics back around at him, the song has Willow Smith written all over it. After all, she’s only nine-years-old but luckily–unlike many other hip-hop artists–Will Smith’s songs are typically all-age friendly, with profanity-free lyrics and without the explicit references to violence.

Though, the verse about picking up a girl in his mother’s borrowed Porsche would seem quite odd coming from a 10-year-old.

And, of course, we’ll be expecting better hair from Willow in the updated version’s video. (via Billboard.com)
