When Mike Mitchell painted a portrait of actor and funnyman Zach Galifianakis and posted it on his Tumblr blog the last thing he expected was a personal “thank you” – or the subsequent apology.

Galifianakis got in touch with Mitchell after seeing his likeness (to be fair it’s a brilliant likeness) and sent him a hand written note thanking the artist for his interest. To make matters a little weirder, Galifianakis then apologized for his face – adding a little insecurity to the congratulations.

Mitchell wrote of his painting on his blog: “I chose Zach because I’ve been a fan of his for a long time. I saw him in this awful movie called Out Cold about 10 years ago, in which he was the only good part of. Shortly after, I caught some of his stand up and once I was resurrected from my laughter induced death, I became a solid ZG fan.”

The note read: “Mike – My name is Zach Galifianakis – you did a rendering of me that I saw. I apologize for my face but I thank you for doing it. Your work is very splendid. Best Wishes – Zach Galifianakis” (Via Buzzfeed.)
