A Judge on the Jury? Elena Kagan Reports For Jury Duty But Not Selected

She’s a common sight in the courtroom, but she won’t be serving justice in the jury box anytime soon.

Not even Supreme Court judges are exempt from jury duty. Associate Justice Elena Kagan showed up to D.C. Superior Court Thursday morning to serve her civil requirement.  But she was released in the afternoon without being called to serve on a jury.

ABC News reported Kagan spent the day sitting “quietly, reading through what appeared to be a legal brief and making handwritten notes in the margin.”

Once released, she threw out her plastic name badge in the trash and left without collecting her $4 travel stipend. Perhaps she knew too much? (via Washington Post)
