Before making it to an encore, Jimmy Buffett face-planted while performing Wednesday night in Sydney.

The 64-year-old finished singing, “It’s been a lovely cruise, I’m sorry it’s ended,” before falling off the stage and losing consciousness at the Hordern Pavilion.

Shocked fans were forced out of the auditorium as the entertainer lay on the floor in front of the first row of seats, waiting for an ambulance to arrive. An audience member observed that it looked like he’d been struck in the head and was bleeding. He is reported to be in stable condition at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Performing in a last minute add-on concert for fans blocked out by his first three sold-out performances in Sydney, Buffett had appologized earlier in the show for not appearing in Australia for three decades. He vowed to return in 2012.
