Place Your Regis Philbin Bets: Las Vegas Executive Creates Odds As to Who Will Join Kelly Ripa

As the world continues to recover from the news that Regis Philbin is to leave Live! with Regis and Kelly later this year, there was but one question: who could possibly replace him? For the potential answer, NewsFeed gives you Johnny Avello.

Avello isn’t in the frame himself but is one of Las Vegas’s most well-known odds makers.

The Executive Director of Race & Sports at Wynn Las Vegas (last seen on these pages weighing up the Oscar odds) has turned his talent over to crafting odds as to the man (or indeed woman) who will fill those formidable shoes.

As always, NewsFeed notes that this is all just for fun and no real money can be wagered. But the odds-on favorite appears to be Neil Patrick Harris at 10/1, closely followed by Kelly Ripa’s husband, the silky-smooth actor Mark Consuelos at 12/1.

Other candidates near the top of the — yes! — 34 runners and riders (you really do have a lot of time on your hands, don’t you Johnny?) include Martin Short (15/1), Jeff Probst (18/1) and Ryan Seacrest (22/1).

If you think it will become a female fronted show, Kathy’s Griffin (45/1) and Lee Gifford (500/1) are available as are E! Network’s Giuliana Rancic (100/1), and, apparently twice as unlikely, the sublime Betty White at 200/1.

Avello is clearly having some fun with this list and couldn’t resist throwing the likes of Tony Danza and Larry King (both 150/1) into the mix as well as Nick’s Cannon (also 150/1) and Jonas (225/1). But NewsFeed will place its fictional dollar (or should that be pound?) on the man who might take on hosting duties for the Golden Globes once again, the British comedian Ricky Gervais (125/1). In showbiz, after all, anything is possible.
