Can someone please remind us what year it is again?
Apart from the commercials and the food–oh yeah, and the actual game–every year Super Bowl fans look forward to the half-time show. Big and bright, the show is usually a spectacular performance that has people talking the next day. So what are people saying about 2011’s half-time performers–the Black Eyed Peas with appearances by Usher and Slash–the day after? For starters, the words “what was that?” come to mind.

Perhaps the decision to go with bizarre, Tron-inspired, futuristic costumes was an attempt to distract Super Bowl viewers from the fact that the Black Eyed Peas are about as relevant in 2011 as the iPod Mini. Really, Super Bowl, the Black Eyed Peas and Usher? What is this, 2005?
And don’t even get us started on the Slash and Fergie rendition of “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Apart from being bizarrely random, it was also just plain awful.

Now some fans of the Black Eyed Peas could counter that the choices for half-time acts of the past few years haven’t been the biggest and brightest acts of the year. And it’s true, last year there was The Who, in 2009 there was Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and in 2006 there was The Rolling Stones.
But don’t forget that those guys are legends and NewsFeed will fight anyone who is willing to equate the Black Eyed Peas with Mick Jagger! (via Rolling Stone)
