Max and his mother stopped by the Today show Monday to recount the experience. It turns out that Max has never seen a Star Wars movie, because they’re “too scary.” Still, he beat out hundreds of other kid actors to snag the spot, after quickly scanning a picture of Vader to see what he looked like.

Before the commercial, Max had already become quite the child star, with several commercial spots and a role on The Young and the Restless under his belt. All this despite having a pacemaker due to a congenital heart defect. And if George Lucas ever wants to film a new Star Wars movie, he’s found his childhood Luke.
