Welcome back to the office, NewsFeeders. We hope your weekend was relaxing and rejuvenating. And we wish you a very happy Valentine’s Day!

As you stare into that seemingly endless mug of coffee, we expect you’re wondering what you missed this weekend. Never fear, NewsFeed was on top of the latest and greatest for the past few days, and we’re here to catch you up on what you missed.

Egypt Will Hold Presidential Election Within Six Months: On Sunday, the embattled country dissolved parliament after President Hosni Mubarak stepped down Friday. The new military rulers promised to hold elections within six months for a new democratic government. Mubarak’s (and his Parliament’s) 30-year-rule has come to an abrupt end, with the Egyptian people’s choice being first for a new government. The front runners include current Vice President Omar Suleiman, democracy campaigner and Nobel laureate Mohamed ElBaradei and former Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa. Or maybe the Egyptian people will opt for someone new and out of the blue. (via TIME, BBC)

Democracy Protests Spread to Algeria: From Tunisia to Egypt and across the Middle East – is Algeria next? Thousands were arrested Saturday in the capital of Algiers as protesters fought for change in their own country. They were portrayed as peaceful protesters with an eye on eradicating corruption within their own government and hoping for democracy. But will the ruling powers listen? (via Al Jazeera)

The Ladies Gaga and Antebellum Win Big at Grammys: Lady Gaga won our attention with her egg-hatching performance (what is it with her and food: she appeared at the MTV Music Awards in a meat dress). But she also took home awards for best Female Pop Performance for “Bad Romance” and Best Pop Album for “The Fame Monster.” But the other Lady – of the Antebellum variety – nabbed the best record, song, country album and country performance awards. Arcade Fire grabbed the Album of the Year for their release “The Suburbs.” (via EW)

In Case You Missed It: NewsFeed brought you an original tale of a new initiative that encouraged “Civility Please” in our daily lives. A simple request, the organizers are looking to tone down the drama and debate in our daily lives and instead opt for a sane and rational conversation. They insist we don’t all have to get along, but we can all indeed be civil about our disagreement. (via NewsFeed)

Viral Video: Charlie the Dog is the best drumming dog we’ve ever seen. NewsFeed is impressed he can keep up with the fast and furious beats of August Burns Red. Though we’re not sure he truly is enjoying it.
