The Five Influential Women Honored at the DVF Awards

Iconic designer Diane Von Furstenberg hosted a fete Friday night in New York to toast Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Smart and three other inspirational women in honor of International Women’s Day.

“All women inspire me,” Von Furstenberg said. “Every woman here makes you feel like you’ve done nothing. They are so courageous and so wonderful.” Hillary Clinton, who was introduced by her daughter, Chelsea, was presented the inaugural Inspiration Award, while Elizabeth Smart received the Courage Award for her advocacy work in child abduction.

Taryn Davis of The American Widow Project, Sohini Chakraborty of Kolkata Sanved and Kakenya Ntaiya of the Kakenya Center of Excellence were also recognized at the second-annual event, which took place at the United Nations.

Von Furstenberg is best known as the fashion designer behind the legendary wrap dress. She created the DVF Awards with her husband, businessman Barry Diller, in 2010 to “support women who are using their resources, commitment and visibility to transform the lives of other women.” Honorees receive $50,000 for their respective organizations.
