The redheaded actress will land in Metropolis for 2012’s long-awaited Superman reboot.

Amy Adams has signed on to star as Clark Kent’s love interest in director Zack Snyder’s new vision of the DC Comics classic, Superman: Man of Steel. Snyder had nothing but praise for his handpicked actress, stating “Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful.” Adams will take her post at the Daily Planet alongside Henry Cavill, the dashing Brit who will don the S shield on his chest.

Adams’ Hollywood cred spiked this year with her Oscar nod for best supporting actress in The Fighter, added to her two previous nominations for Junebug and Doubt. But this role should prove different: Lois Lane is no supporting effort.

Adams joins the ranks of past Lois Lanes including Margot Kidder, the Canadian actress who starred opposite Christopher Reeve in the ‘70s and ‘80s film series, and Kate Bosworth, who played Clark’s lover in the 2006 flick Superman Returns.
