His solely Spanish role in Casa de Mi Padre proves that he can be hilarious in any language.
Will Ferrell’s latest flick is a spoof of the ever-laughable telenovela, sure to be done up in the expected funny fashion. But Casa de Mi Padre, which translates to House of My Father, ditches Ferrell’s standard frat pack crew – presumably their Spanish wasn’t up to par – and instead swaps in Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. Both were former telenovela stars that shot to fame in other Spanish language films, acting alongside each other in the 2001 acclaimed film Y Tu Mamá También.

Ferrell plays Armando Alvarez, a gun-slinging rancher with a love connection that brings him trouble with a local drug lord. The trailer promises the usual overdramatic passion and adventure touts but lets the adoring public in on its shenanigans as well: we can expect slaps and cigarettes in the fully-Spanish flick that features English subtitles. As of yet, there’s no scheduled release date, though the studio claims this year.
This brings NewsFeed back to an Anchorman quotable: “Baxter, you know I don’t speak Spanish.” As it appears, Mr. Burgundy, indeed you do.
