Watch: Massive Damage in Tuscaloosa, Alabama After Tornadoes Hit the South

On Wednesday evening, a tornado ripped through Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The storm was responsible for over 60 deaths in Alabama and at least 173 deaths across five states. See early footage of the damage in Alabama, from a variety of sources.

“I’ve grown up my entire life here in the city of Tuscaloosa and today when I went out after the storm there were parts of the city that literally I didn’t recognize from the destruction that came upon from these tornadoes,” Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox told CNN.

The New York Times reports that the “extent of the damage was unclear Wednesday evening, but officials said many people were still trapped in homes and buildings.”
