Fashion Friday: Quasi-Racist Boots and More Style Scoop

Pradaboots

NewsFeed’s Feifei Sun rounds up the brilliant and bizarre from this week in fashion.

Boots to match your skin color. Well, light skin color, anyway. Prada’s Mary Jane leather boots ($1,500) come to just below the knee, but if you’re a woman of any color at all, we’re not sure these will be a good fit. [Jezebel]

Morphine lip balm. Yes, it’s as weird as it sounds. Morphine Lips promises to spice up your kisses with a balm that contains a tiny amount of benzocaine, which is used in over-the-counter numbing products. Is the balm safe to use? We’re not sure. But if you need a numbing lip product to spice up your kisses, we fear you may have bigger problems. [Morphine Lips]

Long Live McQueen. The MET’s Alexander McQueen retrospective, which kicked off May 4, set an opening day record for the museum’s Costume Institute. 5,100 visitors showed up to see the late British fashion designer’s work. [NYT]

Style That’s (Not So) Superficial. Susan B. Anthony, who once said, “Every woman needs a purse of her own,” has been honored with a commemorative bag made of faux alligator skin. Proceeds from the $250 purse will go toward Anthony’s historical society. [The Hairpin]

Missoni Comes to Target. The retailer, famous for collaborating with high-end designers to produce affordable diffusion lines, announced that Missoni would be its next brand partner. The 400+ product line launches Sept. 13 in Target stores and online. [CBS]
