What you are about to witness is — wait for it — food for thought.
New York magazine’s Vulture blog led us to viral video dedicated to the making and eating of sandwiches in the movies.
We warn you that you may feel the need to go down a similar path and make yourself one of these fine delicacies (the impossible egg sandwich in the Adam Sandler turkey that was Spanglish does admittedly look good) once you’ve watched this through.
Highlights? Where do we begin? The likes of Copland, National Lampoon’s Vacation, The Neverending Story, Point Break and Raiders of The Lost Ark all get their moment in the sun though we’re particularly partial to Denzel Washington doing the business in Philadelphia, because it allows us to suggest that the name of the movie can also double up as the potential topping.
But the undoubted gold medal goes to Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal’s immortal scene in When Harry Met Sally. Set in Katz’s deli, everyone knows off the scene off by heart by now: Sally’s ever-so-slightly-excited eating of said sandwich followed by the exquisite payoff (delivered by director Rob Reiner’s mother, film fans!) of, “I’ll have whatever she’s having.”
