On Sunday night, Rob Mariano–known to fans as “Boston Rob”–proved to CBS viewers everywhere that he’s a true survivor by emerging the victor in Survivor: Redemption Island, set in Nicaragua.

Mariano was voted the winner in the finale of the 22nd season of the popular reality TV series, receiving eight of the nine votes cast.  “I love this game, but you’ve got to get lucky along the way, too. I know what it takes,” the victor said.

That he does. If anything, this win proved that practice really does make perfect when it comes to TV competitions. People reports that he’s “previously competed on the Marquesas, All-Stars and Heroes vs. Villains seasons, and has also been on The Amazing Race twice with his wife Amber.”

The time investment yielded a $1 million prize last night when Mariano’s dream became, well, a reality.
