U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and actor Wendell Pierce from the HBO hit series "The Wire." Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Director Gil Kerlikowske will deliver closing remarks.

Maybe he’s just a fan, or maybe he considers it more documentary than fiction, but Attorney General Eric Holder stopped just short of ordering the creators of the hit HBO series The Wire from doing another season or a movie.

Three actors from the show, Wendell Pierce (“Bunk”), Sonja Sohn (“Kima”) and Jim True-Frost (“Prez”) visited the Justice Department for its Drug-Endangered Children Task Force website and public awareness campaign launch. But during the presentation, Holder said he wanted to “speak directly” to the show’s creators David Simon and Ed Burns, who were not in attendance.

“Do another Season of The Wire,” he said to cheers. “That’s actually at a minimum…if you don’t do a season, do a movie. We’ve done HBO movies, this is a series that deserves a movie.” The tongue-in-cheek order came as an audience was shown clips from the show that depicted how children are exploited in the illicit drug trade.

The Wire was acclaimed for its realistic, raw portrayal of the drug trade in violent and impoverished areas of Baltimore and the resounding effects it had on the greater community. Holder himself pointed out how much he appreciated the series, despite it being critical of law enforcement at times. “Having looked at those clips, I’m reminded how great that series was.”
