These dogs aren’t afraid of the ruff waters. (Sorry, we had to.)

This past weekend in Imperial Beach, Calif., more than 60 canines hit the waves to compete in the sixth annual Lowes Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition.

The pups were escorted by their owners past the breakers and into the ocean’s waters, where they each had 10 minutes to catch and ride two waves back to the shore. The result? This unbelievably adorable video and a little jealousy on NewsFeed’s part that our four-legged friends can surf much better than we can.

Each competitor — divided into categories of small dogs, large dogs and tandem rides — was judged on confidence level, length of ride and overall surf ability. The winners were rewarded not only with a whole lot of attention and some fun in the sun, but also with an all-expenses-paid pet vacation at the Imperial Beach Resort.

But besides being an entertaining weekend experience, the event also had a charitable twist, as all proceeds benefited DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit site where teachers can post classroom items they need and receive funding from private sponsors. Looks like a dog-gone good time! (Once again, sorry.)
