The rumor mill hasn’t even had a moment to pause and take a breath in the wake of Weinergate, and already we’re speculating who could be next in line for New York politics.

According to The Daily, Alec Baldwin’s long-held desire to delve into politics might be realized with a suggestion that he’s considering running for New York City mayor in 2013.  Democrat Anthony Weiner had reportedly been eyeing a run at mayor but, well, it’s pretty clear his political future isn’t what it was a week ago.

The Daily‘s unnamed source, said to be a friend of Baldwin’s, reported that after the Weiner scandal, “Alec said, ‘Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted.’” The friend also added that Baldwin would be the perfect high-profile candidate the Democrats would need.

Okay, so despite Baldwin’s past acknowledgment of his interest in moving into politics, this doesn’t seem like much to go on.  Though Baldwin’s rep said that he “wouldn’t rule it out,” clearly it’s still far from certain that he’s intending a mayoral run. However, NewsFeed can’t help but loving the idea of a Jack Donaghy-inspired campaign. (via The Daily)
