Celebrating Superman in Illinois: Nine Tourist Destinations Inspired by Pop Culture

With festivals dedicated to Superman (in Metropolis, Ill.), and Star Trek (in Vulcan, Alberta) on tap this weekend, check out nine of the best pop culture tourist destinations.

1. Metropolis, Ill.: Superman

For all things Superman, head to his hometown (or at least a real city that shares the fictional name of his home), Metropolis, Ill., for the annual Superman Celebration starting on Thursday, June 9.

Drawing big-name Superman celebrities, this four-day event features tours of the Superman Museum, parades, costume shows, ... autograph signings and so many Superman-related events you have to check out the schedule of events to grasp it all.

But Metropolis, Ill., isn’t the only destination to latch onto fictional fame. Check out a few others.
